They belong to the succulent family. They are plants that accumulate water to adapt to the habitat in which they develop and transform their leaves into thorns to protect themselves from herbivorous animals and prevent the loss of water –which is stored in the trunk–. They need several hours of light a day, avoid drafts and moderate watering, which will depend on the season of the year. In winter you have to reduce it almost to the maximum, in spring do it every 10 or 12 days and in summer increase the frequency and do it every 4 or 8 days (depending on the weather in your area).
