The Dutch company Lightyear has tested its first electric car with the index 0 (formerly One) in a wind tunnel. The results obtained during the test, conducted in accordance with international standards, are impressive: the coefficient of drag of the car was only 0.175, which makes it the record holder of aerodynamics among all existing serial cars.
The «solar» Lightyear electric car was tested in the wind tunnel of the Research Institute of Automotive Technology and Engines (FKFS) in Stuttgart, Germany, according to the WLTP procedure. The coefficient of aerodynamic resistance was a record – 0.175. For comparison, Tesla Model 3 has 0.23, Porsche Taycan Turbo – 0.22, Lucid Air – 0.21. Slightly inferior to Lightyear 0 is only Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX with an indicator of 0.17, but the electric sedan has the status of a concept.
The ultra-low drag coefficient paired with a solar panel installed in the roof of the liftback increases the range. According to the WLTP cycle, Lightyear 0 is able to overcome 625 kilometers, but clear weather will provide it with up to 70 additional kilometers per day. That is, if you use an electric car, for example, only for commuting, you can not connect it to the charger for months.
